Project Overview

What it's about: A web-based application designed to provide real-time facial analysis to determine skin type, identify issues like acne and pigmentation, and potentially offer personalized skincare recommendations. It leverages AI/ML for accurate face tracking and analysis.
Target audience: Individuals interested in understanding their skin health, beauty enthusiasts, and potentially beauty brands or professionals offering virtual consultations.
Your role: UX Designer, UI Designer, Frontend Developer, Machine Learning model Integration ( role in linking the model to the UI).
Tools used: Figma (UI/UX Design), HTML/CSS, JavaScript ), Potentially a real-time face tracking/analysis .

Problem Statement

The modern skincare market is saturated and often confusing, leading consumers to struggle with identifying their specific skin needs and choosing effective products. This product addresses the lack of accessible, personalized, and objective skin analysis.

Why does this product/app/site need to exist?
- To empower users with data-driven insights into their skin without the need for physical consultations.
- To demystify skincare by clearly identifying specific concerns like acne, pigmentation, and skin type.
- To provide a convenient, instant, and engaging way for individuals to understand their unique skin profile and potentially guide them towards more suitable skincare routines and products.
What user problems or frustrations did it address?
- Confusion about personal skin type and specific conditions.
- Ineffective product choices due to lack of targeted information.
- Inconvenience and cost barriers of traditional dermatological consultations.
- Desire for objective, technology-driven skin assessment.

Design Process

Research methods used:
- Competitive Analysis: Studied existing beauty tech apps and virtual try-on tools to identify best practices and gaps.
- User Personas & Journey Mapping: Developed profiles of target users (e.g., skincare novices, beauty enthusiasts) and mapped their current skincare routines and pain points.
- Technology Feasibility: Explored capabilities and limitations of real-time facial analysis and ML integration.
Wireframes/sketches: Began with low-fidelity sketches and wireframes to outline core layouts for the login, home page, analysis initiation, and crucial results display screens, focusing on user flow.
Color palette & typography:
- Palette: Utilized a soft, inviting gradient (pinks, purples) combined with clean whites and subtle grays to create a modern, approachable, and professional aesthetic suitable for a beauty/wellness product.
- Typography: Selected legible and clean sans-serif fonts (Poppins) for both headings and body text to ensure clarity and maintain a contemporary feel.
Prototyping or development steps:
- Created high-fidelity mockups in Figma for key screens, including interactive prototypes to simulate the user flow from login to analysis initiation.

What I Learned / Challenges Faced

Translating ML Data to User-Friendly UI: The primary challenge was designing how complex data from the ML model (e.g., hundreds of facial points, various skin conditions) could be visualized intuitively and actionably for the user. This involved iterative design for overlays, color codes, and textual explanations.
Ensuring User Engagement with Technical Features:Balancing the technical explanation of "Our Technology" with a simple "How It Works" guide was key to ensuring users understood and trusted the process without being overwhelmed.
Designing for Real-Time Interaction: Considering the immediate feedback loop required for camera-based input (e.g., guiding users to position themselves correctly for optimal analysis).
The Importance of "Showing" the Value:Realized the absolute necessity of visually demonstrating the *output* of the ML model for a complete user experience. While the model was functional, ensuring its results were presented clearly and compellingly through the UI became paramount.
